Women Rebel Against The Term 'Plus Size'

Women Rebel Against The Term 'Plus Size'

It seems when it comes to anything fashion related women all over the world are waging a war against the label “plus size”. Whether it’s models, clothing or lingerie it seems women really don’t like the label.

Ajay Rochester is an Australian actress and TV personality who hosted the reality weight-loss TV ‘The Biggest Loser’ and she is at the forefront of this battle.

She has suggested that just because a woman is a UK dress size 12 she should not be described as ‘plus size’. Ajay has even started a social media campaign #DropThePlus which can be viewed on Twitter and Instagram.

She says "I am a woman FULL STOP. We are all women. Many shapes and sizes. It's not us versus them. We are all sisters!"

Support has come from many women around the world including Dita Von Teese, the queen of burlesque and also Stefania Ferrario the lingerie model. Ferrario is an Australian lingerie model and as a UK size 12 she is often deemed to be plus size in many of her photo-shoots.

Ferrario echoes the sentiments of Rochester "I am a model and that's it. Unfortunately in the modelling industry if you're above a UK size 10 you are considered plus size, and so I'm often labelled a 'plus size' model.

I do not find this empowering… I'm NOT proud to be called 'plus', but I am proud to be called a woman and proud to be called a model, as that is my profession."

American actress, singer and TV star Aria Johnson is another who has voiced her support.

“We are all women and need to love ourselves in whatever shape and size we are. No-one, male or female is just a number on a size chart. Let’s fight this thing together”
